CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki Track and Field team will begin offering a women's development program to females at Southern Illinois University in September, assistant coach Dan Digman announced today.
The program will offer lessons in proper running technique, instruction from a Division I coach and a group setting for work outs.
"The program will be similar to a running or fitness club, but with better instruction and resources," said Digman. "There are a number of people who diligently work out throughout the week on their own and we are offering them the opportunity to join a group of people who are dedicated to their personal fitness."
Participants will train three mornings a week and will receive personalized workout routines. Times of training are still being finalized.
"Those who join will be treated like Division 1 collegiate athletes, but without the pressures of having to compete," said Digman.
Participants who would like to compete will be given the opportunity to do so at the Salukis' home meets and a chance to make the team's traveling roster.
An informational meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 7 pm in Lingle Hall room 123.
Interested students who are unable to make the meeting or have any questions about the program should contact Digman at 618-453-5451 or by e-mail at digman@siu.edu.
