Volleyball drops first match of the season, 3-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Southern Illinois (3-1) volleyball team was held to a .094 hitting percentage by Kent State (5-0) as the Golden Flashes handed the Salukis their first loss of the season, 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-23), at the Tribe Classic Friday afternoon.
Middle blockers Chandra Roberson and Marina Medic were the bright spots in the match combining for 22 kills and seven blocks. Medic hit a team-high .529 with 10 kills and just one error. The sophomore chipped in 1 solo and three block assists. Roberson added 12 kills and three block assists.
Libero Kristy Elswick contributed a match-high 19 digs, while setter Brooklyn Robbins recorded 34 assists and 11 digs, her third double-double in four matches this year.
The Salukis will face East Carolina (10 a.m.) and tournament host William & Mary (6:30 p.m.) Saturday. The matches are available by live video stream at http://www.tribeathletics.com/story.php/4961/.
