Volleyball falls to Missouri State, 3-2

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Missouri State held on to defeat Southern Illinois, 3-2 (17-25, 25-23, 13-25, 25-15, 9-15), in volleyball action Friday night at Davies Gym.
After falling behind, 2-1, the Salukis (11-5, 2-4) rallied to win game four, but could not pull off the upset of the Bears (12-6, 4-2), losing the final set, 15-9.
Jennifer and Kristie Berwanger combined for 27 kills to lead the Salukis. K. Berwanger posted a season-high 11 kills, hitting .281 against the Bears.
"I think Kristie had a great night," said head coach Brenda Winkeler. "It was probably her best performance of the season. That's a positive and hopefully we'll keep that going."
Senior setter Brooklyn Robbins contributed 45 assists and 10 digs, recording her 22nd career double-double. Kelsie Laughlin posted 13 digs and 8 kills, leading the Salukis with a .533 hitting percentage.
"It was a fan-friendly match," Winkeler said. "There were a lot of great plays on both sides."
The Salukis return to action Saturday night as they host Wichita State. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Davies Gym. Fans who present their SIU vs. Indiana State football game ticket will receive $1 admission to the match against the Shockers.
