Evansville, Ind - For the third straight meet, the SIU cross country teams swept team titles for victories at the Evansville Invitational.
Running without ace Jeff Schirmer, who used the weekend to complete harder practices, the men came in first, second, third and fourth to give the Salukis the edge over 21 other teams participating.
Dan Dunbar led the Salukis coming across the line first, completing the 8K course in 24:26.08 with Kyle Kirchner coming in second (24:29.80), Jason Ordway in third (24:30.71) and Mark Bowman in fourth (24:31.51) to round out the top finishers.
"We wanted to see how the rest of the pack would react (without Jeff)," Head coach Matt Sparks said. "And it was nice for others to step up and run a good race."

Other finishers on the men's side included Myles Scott Stirn (43rd 25:52.72), Neal Anderson (44th 25:53.44), Thomas Fielder (73rd 26:27.92), Jared Milam (153rd 27:58.50), and Brad Pirok (163rd 28:17.13). The women also came out on top as they finished first out of 19 teams competing.
"They won the meet convincingly once again," Sparks said. "We had a very strong and team run our 1-5 gap was pretty good working together and the ladies did a good job of running together staying with the pack."
A'Seret Dokubo led the way as she finished in sixth place with a time of 17:54.59 followed by Emily Toennies in seventh place (17:55.40) and Megan Hoelscher in eighth (17:59.95) as all three ran their best races of the season.
