PEORIA, Ill. - The Southern Illinois volleyball team defeated Bradley in five sets (19-25, 25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 15-12) Friday in Peoria, improving to 11-3 overall, 2-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
SIU (11-3, 2-2 MVC) dropped the first set to the Braves (4-12, 0-5 MVC), but came back for the win, taking the second, third and fifth sets.
"Bradley played very well," said head coach Brenda Winkeler. "We really struggled in the first set, but I'm proud of the way the kids came back and got the win."
Brooklyn Robbins posted a career-high 19 digs, along with 55 assists, which gives the senior setter her 20th career double-double. Jennifer Berwanger contributed 23 kills, a career-high for the sophomore, and 17 digs for her 15th double-double. As a team, the Salukis combined for 66 kills and 71 digs, hitting .168 against the Braves.
"We were able to respond and get the victory on the road," Winkeler said. "That's the important part."
The Salukis head to Northern Iowa Saturday to take on the Panthers who are currently 5-0 in conference play. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
