Honor our Troops
All military personnel, veterans and family members will receive discounted tickets to the game. Tickets can be purchased at the SIU Arena Ticket Office this week, and at McAndrew Stadium, beginning at 8 a.m., Saturday. Pre-game festivities include a patriotic version of America the Beautiful performed by the Marching Salukis, a 21 Gun Salute and Taps conducted by the Murphysboro American Legion, the presentation of Colors by the SIU Army and Air Force ROTC Cadets and a C-130 Hercules flyover by the 182nd Airlift Wing of the Illinois National Guard. In addition, SIU student and Purple Heart recipient Omar Wilson will participate in the coin toss as part of the Wounded Warrior Project.Halftime will feature numerous military recognitions, a patriotic Salute to Our Troops and a flyover by the United States Coast Guard, piloted by SIU Graduate Lt. Chris Bonner. Former Saluki volleyball players and coaches will also be honored as part of the program's 50th Anniversary celebration.
Salukis and Fighting Sioux Meet for First Time
Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between SIU and North Dakota. The Fighting Sioux, members of the Great West Conference, are transitioning to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) this year.
Lennon Faces Former Team
SIU first-year head coach Dale Lennon coaches against his former team for the first time this weekend. Lennon compiled a 90-24 record in nine years, including seven playoff appearances, one National Championship and five North Central Conference titles at North Dakota.
Saluki Homestand
Saturday marks the start of a three-game homestand for the Salukis. SIU also plays host to Western Illinois (Nov. 8) and South Dakota State (Nov. 15) during that stretch.
