CARBONDALE, Ill. - The black team scored three runs in the first two innings and never looked back en route to a 6-2 win over the maroon team in game three of Southern Illinois University's intrasquad fall world series.
Game three was part of the team's annual family day, with over 120 spectators in attendance supporting the Dawgs.
Maroon starter Nathan Forer walked in a run, as the black team took an early 1-0 lead in the first. A two-out double by Jordan Sivertsen helped get the black team a three-run cushion in the second.
The maroon team answered during its at-bat in the second, using back-to-back doubles by Scott Elmendorf and Michael Stalter to slice the lead to 3-1.
Maroon pitching, after tossing four-straight scoreless innings, issued two walks to start the seventh. Freshman Chris Serritella then made righthander Tom Danahy pay by driving a first-pitch, two-RBI double down the right field line to secure the win for the black.
Sivertsen earned the win on the mound, while Forer took the loss. Maroon pitchers gave up a total of eight walks on the day.
Offensively, each team finished with six hits.
The black team leads the series, 2-1, and looks to win the best-of-five-game set this weekend. Game four will be played Saturday and game five (if necessary) is scheduled for Sunday.
