BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Southern Illinois University track and field team traveled to Bloomington, Ind. over the weekend for the Indiana Relays. The two-day meet was hosted by the University of Indiana at the Gladstein Fieldhouse.
On day one of competition, SIU qualified six men and six women for finals events on Saturday.
Brandon Deloney qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.97 seconds. Deloney went on to finish sixth on Saturday with a time of 6.92 seconds in the finals.
Deloney also competed in the invitational final of the 200-meter dash where he finished second with a time of 21.50 seconds.
Stevie Warren qualified for the finals of the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.24 seconds and finished sixth with a time of 22.33 seconds in Saturday's final.
Geoffrey Daniel qualified in men's triple jump with a mark of 47-24.41 (14.40m) before placing seventh in the finals with a mark of 45-76.77 (13.95m).
Andrea Norris qualified for finals in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. Norris' 7.70 seconds finish on Friday moved her on to Saturday's final where she finished ninth with a time of 7.70 seconds. In the 200, Norris' 25.24 seconds finish qualified her for finals where she finished 11th with a time of 25.17 seconds.
Kandise Thompson qualified for the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.23 on Friday before finishing 10th on Saturday with a 57.47 seconds time. Toni Whitfield qualified for the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.79 and finished in second in the finals with a time of 2:16.73.
Mikeya Nicholson and Judeka Adams both qualified for the triple jump finals on Friday. Nicholson's 38-71.39 (11.80m) mark moved her on to Saturday where she finished fourth with a mark of 38-87.80 (11.85m). Adams' mark of 37-56.56 (11.45m) on Friday qualified her for finals where she finished sixth with a mark of 37-99.13 (11.58m).
In other day one action, the SIU throwers were dominant. Joe Mueller qualified for the weight throw finals with a throw of 60-23.62 (18.36m) before moving on to the finals where he won the event with a throw of 61-58.14 (18.77m). Brenton Siemons qualified in the weight throw where he finished second in the finals with a throw of 60-66.28 (18.49m).
For the women, Brittany Riley qualified for the weight throw finals where she won the event with a throw of 79-13.39 (24.12m). Riley also qualified for the shot finals where she finished third with a toss of 47-86.75 (14.59m).
Seimons won the shot put event with a throw of 57-24.78 (17.60m). Thomas Smith qualified and finished second with a throw of 55-77.43 (17.00m).
In invitational action on Friday, Jeff Schirmer won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:16.88. Greg McBride finished ninth in the invitational mile run with a time of 4:29.44.
Sammy Biggs finished fifth in the 400-meter dash invite with a time of 48.96 seconds.
Kyle Kirchner finished second in the open 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:37.78. Emily Toennies finished fifth in the event for the women with a time of 10:25.92.
Miracle Thompson finished in fourth-place in the women's pole vault event with a vault of 11-64.70 (3.55m).
The Salukis will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9 when they host their final home meet of the season. The McDonald's Invitational is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
