CARBONDALE, Ill. - A Bradley steal with just over 10 seconds to play proved costly for Southern Illinois as the Salukis (8-17, 4-11) fell to the Braves (11-16, 5-11), 77-72, in Missouri Valley Conference play Thursday afternoon in SIU Arena.
The Salukis came out of a timeout with 24 seconds left to play, the ball in their possession, down by three points, 75-72. A pass from Erica Smith to Jayme Sweere was intercepted by BU's Devyn Flanagan with 10 seconds left.
In order to get the ball back, the Salukis put Flanagan on the line where she drained both free throws to put the Braves up by five. A missed jumper by Sweere on the return trip down the floor was rebounded by Bradley, who ran out the clock for the win.
The Salukis held the largest lead of the game, a 30-20 advantage with 5:54 left to play in the first half. The Braves answered with a 15-to-5 run to close out the half and take a five-point lead, 40-35, into the locker room at the break.
The Braves put four players in double-digit scoring including 40 points off the bench, including a game-high 28 points Raisa Taylor. Kelly Krumwiede (14), Flanagan (14) and Sonya Harris (12) also pitched in double-digits for the Braves.
Krumwiede added a game-high nine boards helping her team out-rebound Southern 42 to 27.
Jayme Sweere led the Salukis with 22 points, while Jasmine Gibson added 21.
The Salukis will play their final home game of the regular season Saturday against UNI at 2:05 p.m.
