Riley named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS - Southern Illinois University senior thrower Brittany Riley was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year.
The USTFCCCA honors the men's and women's coaches and athletes of the year for nine regions.
This is a repeat honor for Riley as she earned the title last year with her world-record mark in the weight throw.
Riley, who is the defending weight throw national champion, posted a season best of 79-06.75 (24.25m) in the event this season. Riley's mark is nearly nine feet better than her nearest competitor.
The Flossmoor, Ill. native earns this honor just after being named the Missouri Valley Conference' Most Outstanding Field Athlete.
Riley will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. this weekend to defend her title at the 2008 Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet.
