Schirmer named MVC Athlete of the Week

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - Eleven Missouri Valley Conference runners grabbed top-five finishes during the opening weekend of the 2008 cross country season as one team and three individuals claimed top honors.

The Illinois State women finished first at the Illini Challenge in Urbana, Ill., led by sophomore Jess Husted.

Two females and one male claimed individual crowns last weekend. Nicole Braunsdorf of Drake was the top runner at the Drake Bulldog Classic in Des Moines, Kellyn Johnson notched the top position at the Iowa Open in Iowa City, and Jeff Schirmer was the winner at the SIU Early Bird in Carbondale.
