CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki Way project is seeing significant progress and remains on schedule, according to the original timeline.
The most visible progress in the past month has been the installation of steel beams for the football stadium and team facility. Three of the six concession stands and restroom facilities are completed, and the structure of the press box is taking shape. Much of the brickwork has been laid and considerable movement is taking place in the formation of the base of the stadium.
The team facility, located on the east side of the arena, had the concrete floor poured on the second level last week.
Fans will experience new amenities in the SIU Arena this season, as baseline bleachers have been installed, and the concessions stands on the west side of the lower concourse are being renovated. The men's restrooms were renovated as well because of the new elevator. In addition, the shell of the west side entrance will be completed within the next couple of weeks.
Associate Athletic Director for Facilities Jason King said the project remains on schedule.
"During the last month, the project has really taken shape, with a lot of new structure being put in place," King said. "We are still on target for the scheduled completion dates in 2010."
