CARBONDALE, Ill. - The SIU Athletic Department officially reopened the newly resurfaced Law School Tennis Courts Thursday in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Lesar Law School. The courts are the first part of the Saluki Way project to officially open for use.
Among those present at the event were SIUC Chancellor Samuel Goldman, SIU Athletic Director HREF="http://siusalukis.cstv.com/genrel/moccia_mario00.html" >Mario Moccia, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Larry Dietz, and SIU men's and women's tennis head coaches Dann Nelson and Audra Nothwehr.
"This marks the beginning of Saluki Way," said Goldman. "And what a better way than with our tennis teams doing so well."
The resurfacing was part of a joint project between SIU Athletics, the SIUC Recreational Sports and Services office, and Student Affairs. In addition, the SIUC Physical Plant also aided in the resurfacing project.
"These activities give us the chance to collaborate with a lot of people," noted Dietz. "This represents another collaboration like that."
The resurfacing was started shortly after six of the tennis courts near the SIU Arena were removed to make way for the new football stadium.
