Pre-game Notes
SIU Captains: 6, 10, 31, 86
Senior linebacker Chauncey Mixon returned after missing the last four games with a broken jaw. He started the game at left outside linebacker.
First Quarter
Senior right tackle Shawn Smith made his 44th-consecutive start and senior linebacker Brandin Jordan made his 40th career start.
C.J. Robertson made his first reception of the season for eight yards, giving SIU its first first-down of the game on its second drive. It was his second career catch.
Scott Ravanesi had his punt downed at the UNI 7-yard line at 8:34. It was his 10th punt of the season downed inside the opponents 20-yard line.
Joe Allaria made a one-handed catch on his 25th reception of the season, giving SIU 13 yards and a first down.
Deji Karim's 22-yard run in the first quarter was his 12th run on the season that went for 20 or more yards.
Kyle Dougherty's 45-yard field goal at 3:17 tied his season long.
Neither team converted a third down in the first quarter (SIU - 0-for-2; UNI - 0-for-3).
SIU held a 3-0 lead after 15 minutes and have now outscored opponents 124-36 in the first quarters of games under head coach Dale Lennon.
Second Quarter Northern Iowa scored on a fourth-and-1 at 13:08 to take a 7-3 lead. This marked the first time in the last 254 minutes and 42 seconds that the Salukis trailed (spanning nearly four games).
John Goode's 5-yard reception on a third-and-1 converted the first third down of the game for SIU (on fourth try). It was Goode's fourth catch on the year.
Dougherty's 27-yard field goal at 5:52 was the 40th of his career, tying Ron Miller for the second most in school history.
Southern Illinois did not allow the Panthers to convert a third down until after the 5-minute mark of the second quarter.
Deji Karim's 48-yard reception on the last play of the half was a career-long. However, he came up two yards short of the goal line.
Southern Illinois trailed at the half for the first time this season.
Third Quarter Karim's 25-yard run at 11:30 put him at104 yards rushing, giving the senior five-straight games with 100-plus yards on the ground. He becomes just the sixth Saluki back ever to do so.
Bryce Morris caught his first touchdown of the season at 9:19 on a 17-yard pass from Dieker. It was the third touchdown reception of his career.
Mike McElroy intercepted his fifth pass of the season at 4:55, giving him a pick in three-straight games.
Fourth Quarter Steven Morse recovered a muffed punt at the UNI 7-yard line at 8:02.
Karim scored on a fourth-and-goal at the one at 5:06 for his ninth rushing touchdown of the season.
