TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Southern Illinois volleyball team dominated play in ISU Arena Friday night, leading the entire match to sweep Indiana State, 25-14, 25-15, 26-24, in Missouri Valley Conference play on the road.
The match was tied just six times, but the Salukis (16-7, 5-7 MVC) never trailed the Sycamores (6-20, 2-10 MVC), hitting nearly .400 in the match with just 10 errors in 97 attacks.
"I thought we played very well tonight," Saluki head coach Brenda Winkeler said. "It was one of our best performances of the year, especially serving and passing, which allowed us to have a very balanced offense."
Junior outside hitter Jennifer Berwanger led the Salukis with a match-high 13 kills, seven digs, a career-best two block solos and one block assist in the win. Junior right side Alicia Johnson added nine kills and a match-high 10 digs to go with two service aces and two block assists.
Senior middle blocker Chandra Roberson hit a team-high .714, recording five kills in just seven attempts with no attack errors. Alysia Mayes and Sydney Clark put down eight and seven kills respectively in the short match last just one hour and 13 minutes.
Setter Rachael Brown led the Saluki offense with 39 assists. The freshman added four kills, three digs, one solo and one block assist.
Three Sycamores, Stacy Qualizza, Kristen Kerscher and Ana Maira Charun, recorded eight kills each to lead the team, while Whitney Fromm added 32 assists in the match.
The Salukis wrap up the road trip with a match at Illinois State Saturday. SIU has fallen in 36-straight regular-season contests against the Redbirds.
