Saluki men finish second; women sixth at MVC Championships

Peoria, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's cross country couldn't make it a "three-peat" as it came in second at the Missouri Valley Conference championships while the women took home sixth place.
Indiana State took the men's title with 32 points while the Salukis finished a close second with 33 points.
Jeff Schirmer was the top finisher for the Salukis with a second place finish at a time of 26:04 and Mohamed Mohamed came in third overall with a time of 26:09 where the spread of top ten finishers spanned less than one minute.
Kyle Kirchner and Dan Dunbar also finished in the top 10 with eight and ninth place finishes, respectively.
On the women's side, the Salukis took home a sixth place finish with Ryan Eichelberger leading the way as she came in 12th overall with a time of 19:19 while Megan Hoelscher finished in 16th with a time of 19:36.
Emily Toennies finished 21st with a time of 19:47, A'Seret Dokubo was 33rd with a time of 20:10, and Toni Whitfield came in at 39th at 20:26.
Wichita State claimed the women's title with 43 points while Illinois State was a distant second with 86 points.
