CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University football team spent Super Bowl weekend raising money for charity with the Souper Bowl for Hunger event.
Each member of the Saluki football team volunteered time to collect donations at Schnucks, Kroger and Wal-Mart in Carbondale, raising close to 3,000 dollars for the Good Samaritan House.
The team has been collecting for the organization through Souper Bowl for Hunger since 2001. Brooke Morgan, Coordinator of Life Skills, helped organize the event and says it is one the team enjoys doing year after year.
"They were really excited to get back out there and help raise money for the Good Samaritan House," Morgan says. "It's always something they look forward to."
Souper Bowl for Hunger is just one of many community service events the Saluki football team has participated in this year, a few others include Food for Families, Just Read and Santa's Shoebox.
