Carbondale, Ill.- The Southern Illinois men's tennis team continued its winning ways as they wrapped up a six match home stand by defeating Illinois-Chicago 5-2.
The Salukis have now won six straight matches and are 8-0 in home matches this season.
Head coach Dann Nelson said the Salukis are playing well at doubles and knew they would have to fight to pick up the victory.
"We knew that UIC was a strong team and that we had to play well today to get the win," Nelson said.
Felipe Villasenor picked up a big win for the Salukis at No. 2 singles winning the match in three sets defeating Bastian Harbo,4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Villasenor is now 10-3 overall in singles play this season and 12-1 in doubles primarily partnering with Eric West at No. 3.
Nelson said wins from Eric West, Sebastian Rubiano, and Anton Leonenko in singles helped put the match away for the Salukis.
Up next for the Salukis is a match with Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn. on Wednesday April 1 beginning at 1 p.m.
