Volleyball sweeps SEMO tournament to open the spring season

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois' volleyball team won four straight matches, taking the tournament title at the Southeast Missouri State Spring Tournament Saturday to open the spring season.
SIU swept host SEMO (25-21, 28-26) led by 12 digs from Sydney Clark.
The Salukis then took two of three from Murray State (21-25, 25-14, 15-5), followed by a sweep of Southern Indiana (25-21, 28-26).
Clark then went on to hit .524 with 10 kills in 21 attempts and just one error in a victory over SIUE (25-15, 13-25, 15-8). Jasmine Conner led the Salukis with four solo and four block assists in the match.
Chandra Roberson led the team, hitting .500 in the tournament, while Clark hit .340 on the day and Conner, .244.
Amanda Arnold recorded 99 assists for the tournament, adding 11 blocks (four solo, seven assists), second on the team..
Jennifer Berwanger recorded a team-high 31 digs on the day, while Clark added 30, Kelsie Laughlin, 25 and Lauren Blumhorst, 22.
Conner led the team with 16 blocks in the tournament, including five solo and 11 block assists. Roberson added 10 blocks (three solo, seven assists).
The Salukis have two more tournaments this spring including the Loyola Three Wise Men Tournament Saturday, April 4. SIU will take on Michigan State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Olivet Nazarene in pool play before facing potential Big 10, MAC, Big East, Horizon, Ohio Valley or Missouri Valley teams in the play offs.
SIU will also host their annual spring tournament April 18.
