McCall Named MVC Field Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois' Jeneva McCall was named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Co-Field Athlete of the Week the league announced Wednesday.
McCall, who hails from Dolton, Ill., posted the first regional-qualifying mark of her career Friday at the Sea Ray Relays hosted by Tennessee.
The freshman won the open hammer throw Thursday with a toss of 175-01 (52.85m). She turned around Friday to win the open discus with a regional mark of 172-08 (52.63m), qualifying her for the invitational discus throw Saturday. McCall then bettered her regional mark in the invitational discus, 176-02 (56.71m), finishing second, now ranked first in the league and fourth in the nation this season.
Cory Goos (men's track) of UNI, Phil Hanson (men's field) of UNI, Kellyn Johnson (women's track) of Wichita State and Leigh Petranoff (women's co-field) of Illinois State joined McCall as the other award-winners in the MVC this week.
