CARBONDALE, Ill. - The 24th-ranked Saluki softball team (21-6, 5-3) takes on Wichita State (12-19, 3-5) this weekend in a three-game series at Charlotte West Stadium. The series opens with a noon doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a single game at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
SIU needs just one more win to reach its 1,000th win all-time, and 100th at Charlotte West Stadium, Rochman Field, which opened in 2003. The program has an overall record of 999-600-3 (.624) and 99-30 (.767) mark at Charlotte West Stadium.
Southern Illinois enters the weekend series with a four-game win streak, its longest since starting the season 11-0. The Salukis have also been on a season-long 10-day layoff after last weekend's series at Illinois State was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The team will have a make up doubleheader at Illinois State on Monday, April 27 starting a 1 p.m., and the doubleheader at Saint Louis has been moved to Wednesday, April 22 at 3 p.m.
Wichita State comes into the three-game set with the MVC's top-ranked team batting average at .299, while SIU holds the top spot among pitching staffs in the league and is ranked 15th in the country with a 1.44 earned run average.
The Salukis dropped all three games last season at Wichita State, and are 1-5 in their last six meetings.
The games this weekend can be heard and viewed live online through Saluki All-Access.
