Carbondale, Ill.-The Southern Illinois men's tennis team dropped their first match at home as they lost to Missouri Valley Conference rival Drake 4-2.
Because of time constraints, the match was cut short as the No. 6 singles match was not played between Anton Leonenko and Guilherme Marsiglia.
The Salukis were down 1-0 after losing the doubles point and couldn't regain momentum in singles to pull off the win.
Head coach Dann Nelson said Drake played very well and the Salukis weren't prepared enough for the match.
"We were a little too complacent enough and we weren't aggressive enough like we should have been
The Salukis however did see victories at No. 3 singles where Eric West defeated Cesar Bracho, Hugo Vidal won at No. 4 singles defeating Mauricio Mendoza, and Eric West and Felipe Villasenor collected a victory at No. 3 doubles.
"It was good to see Eric pick up some victories today and it's two wins in a row for Hugo Vidal so that was good as well," Nelson said.
Up next for the Salukis will be a trip to Terra Haute, Ind. where they will face Indiana State on Wedseday. Match time is at 3 p.m.
