CARBONDALE, Ill. - The 24th-ranked Southern Illinois softball team takes its six-game winning streak into Columbia, Mo. on Wednesday for a single game against No. 10/11 Missouri at 3 p.m. at University Field.
The game, which will be SIU's first against a ranked opponent since facing No. 1/3 Alabama on Feb. 27, features Missouri's first-ever Strike Out Cancer day, with free admission for fans wearing pink.
The Salukis (23-6) are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Wichita State this past Saturday and are on the longest winning streak since beginning the season 11-0.
Missouri (33-5) enters the midweek contest after having swept Texas A&M during a doubleheader on April 4, and has won eight of its last nine games.
Southern Illinois lost its last two games to the Tigers after dropping both during the 2007 Carbondale Regional in the NCAA Tournament. Missouri was ranked 18th at the time and went on to win the Regional Championship.
SIU trails in the all-time series 17-12, but won 12-0 in five innings during its last trip to Columbia, Mo. back in 2006.
Wednesday's game can be heard live online through Saluki All-Access.
The Salukis remain at No. 24 in this week's USA Today/NFCA top 25 poll released today, and have been ranked in at least one of the two major polls for nine straight weeks.
Following the non-conference match up, Southern Illinois will return home for a three-game series against Missouri State. The series opens with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, April 10, and concludes with a single game at noon on Saturday, April 11.
