CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Director of Athletics Mario Moccia has been named to the board of directors of the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA). The organization is a subsidiary of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), the professional association for more than 6,500 college athletics administrators.
MOAA was formed to promote equitable employment opportunities for minorities in the athletics industry through the exchange of ideas, the creation of networking opportunities and the advocation of an increase in employment for minorities in athletics administration positions at all levels of the sports industry.
"Mario is a rising star in intercollegiate athletics, so I am not surprised that he was selected to serve on the MOAA Board of Directors," said SIU's athletic faculty representative Dr. Harold Bardo. "He is an outstanding selection for that board."
Part of the mission of the association is to promote a sports environment that supports the values necessary to accept aspiring professionals from all walks of life.
"I am honored to be selected to serve on the board of directors for MOAA," Moccia said. "I look forward to carrying on the organization's mission of promoting diversity and equality of opportunity."
