The premiere issue of Saluki Illustrated, the Official Magazine of Saluki Athletics, is slated for release on Tuesday, according to SI co-founder and creative director Toby Brooks. The inaugural issue features a cover story about former Saluki running back Brandon Jacobs, who recently visited the area.
"Co-founder Jim Muir and I could not be more excited to get this first issue under our belts and in the hands of Saluki fans," said Brooks. The magazine marks the first-ever such publication geared specifically to SIU sports.
Saluki Director of Athletics Mario Moccia echoed those sentiments. "A publication of this caliber devoted exclusively to Saluki Athletics is long overdue," he said. "Personally, I can't wait to read through this inaugural issue."
In addition to the Jacobs story, the first-ever issue includes features on new Saluki women's basketball coach Missy Tiber, former SIU basketball star Jamaal Tatum, and Saluki women's tennis standout Fadzai Mawisire.
The magazine will be available for purchase online at www.salukiillustrated.com and at any of several 710 Bookstore locations throughout the region. Plans are being finalized to offer the magazine at several other area retail outlets as well.
Saluki Illustrated was founded in 2009 to spotlight Southern Illinois University athletes, coaches and staff members and also includes other stories of interest related to SIU sports. The 48-page full-color magazine is published monthly and is available for purchase in single issues or through an annual subscription. More information is available at the magazine website at www.salukiillustrated.com.
