Men's Tennis Wraps Up Play at Hoosier Classic

Bloomington, Ind. - The SIU men's tennis team concluded play at the Hoosier Classic on Sunday, as freshman Brandon Florez garnered a sixth-place finish in Bloomington, Ind.
Florez faced off with Indiana's Jeremy Langer in the fifth place match. However, the freshman from McKinney, Texas, was defeated in straight sets by Langer 6-4, 6-4, relegating him to sixth place in Singles Flight #1.
Also in Flight #1, Falk DeBeenhouwer faced of with Max Stevens of Tennessee for third place in the consolation bracket. However, the Belgian was forced to retire in the second set and fell to Stevens 6-2, 2-0 (retired).
In Flight #2, Chikara Kidera captured third place in the consolation bracket, but had to go into tiebreakers in the third set to top Brian Starr of Xavier 6-4, 2-6, (10-6). Meanwhile, fellow freshman Orhan Spahic was defeated by Sumit-Prakash Gupta of Louisville 6-2, 6-5.
Flight #3 saw Pavlo Buryi fall to Stephen McLoughlin of Butler 6-1, 6-2, while Jordan Snyder trounced Adam Perkins of Cleveland State in Flight #4.
In doubles action, only two of the four pairs saw action. Kidera and Florez triumphed over Cleveland State's duo of Yannick Goosens and Robert Fox, 8-5. For the other SIU pair, Buryi and Snyder were bested by Nick Volz and Taylor Tunis of IUPUI.
The team will have a weekend off before they continue their fall schedule, as they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the Steve Baras Fall Classic.
