Football to Hold Military Appreciation Day at Saturday's Game

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois' Sept. 26 football game against North Dakota State marks the second annual and last Military Appreciation Day at McAndrew Stadium. A variety of events have been planned to honor our Armed Forces throughout the day with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT.
Pre-game festivities include a patriotic performance by the Marching Salukis, a 21-gun Salute and Taps conducted by the Illinois National Guard Honor Guard, the presentation of Colors by the SIU Army and Air Force ROTC Cadets and a Black Hawk helicopter flyover by the Illinois Air National Guard flying out of Decatur, Ill.
In addition, SIU student and Iraqi veteran Clinton Warrick, recipient of the Purple Heart and Silver Star, will participate in the coin toss as part of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Halftime will feature numerous military recognitions and patriotic Salute to Our Troops.
All military personnel, veterans and family members can receive discounted tickets to the game by calling 618-453-5153. Tickets may also be purchased at the SIU Arena Ticket Office this week, and at Gate 1 of McAndrew Stadium, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. In order to receive the military and veteran discount, you will need to show proper military identification.
Also during Saturday's game, the fourth most memorable moment at McAndrew stadium will be unveiled.
