Volleyball sweeps Bradley on the road

PEORIA, Ill. - The Southern Illinois volleyball team bounced back from their first loss of the season Friday to sweep Bradley (25-18, 25-10, 25-23) in Missouri Valley Conference play Saturday night.
"We played very well tonight," Saluki head coach Brenda Winkeler said. "I was pleased with the way we responded after last night's loss. Alysia Mayes had a great night, as well as Jennifer Berwanger."
Outside hitter Berwanger led the Salukis (12-1, 2-1 MVC) hitting .458 with 14 kills, six digs and two service aces. Middle blocker Mayes added 11 kills and a solo block, hitting .409 with just two errors in 22 attacks.
Setter Rachael Brown led SIU with 38 assists. Outside hitter Laura Thole led Southern with nine digs, Lauren Blumhorst and Brown added eight each.
The Salukis hit .266 with just 14 errors in 109 attacks, holding the Braves (8-9, 0-4 MVC) to a .091 hitting percentage with just 28 kills and 19 errors.
Annie Cave led BU with eight kills. Rachelle Dejean added a match-high 14 digs.
The Salukis return home to host Illinois State and Indiana State in MVC action Oct. 2-3. Friday's match against Illinois State is Pack the Gym night in Davies.
