CARBONDALE, Ill. - A "Celebration of Cal's Life" will be held at Southern Illinois University's Abe Martin Field from 4-5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, to honor the life of late Saluki baseball coach Dan Callahan.
Following the celebration, a reception hosted by the Callahan Family and Saluki Athletics will be held from 5-8 p.m. in the Stadium Club at Saluki Stadium.
Coach Callahan passed away on Monday after losing a courageous battle with a rare form of skin cancer. He coached the Saluki baseball program for 16 seasons, leading SIU to 442 victories, and he is one of just five coaches in Missouri Valley Conference history to win over 200 league games.
In lieu of flowers, the Callahan family requests memorials be made to the Coach Kill Cancer Fund at P.O. Box 3988, Carbondale, Ill., and/or to the Dan Callahan Memorial Fund that will soon be set up through the SIU Foundation to benefit the Saluki baseball program.
For more information on the Dan Callahan Memorial Fund, please contact Kevin Ginther in the SIU Athletic Department at 618-453-5408.
