ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois sophomore thrower Jeneva McCall has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced late Tuesday.
The honor for McCall comes after she recorded a NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the shot put at the McDonald's Invitational, Feb. 5-6.
McCall, who received her first athlete of the week accolade on Jan. 26, threw 55-11.75 to win the shot put last weekend. McCall has won the shot put in all five events she has competed in this indoor season and she has won the weight throw in 4-of-5 meets.
The Dolton, Ill. native is the only Saluki to automatically qualify for the NCAA National Meet, held March 12-13 at the University of Arkansas. McCall also owns an automatic bid in the weight throw, thanks to her toss of 70-00.25 back on Jan. 23 in the Gladstein Invitational.
McCall own the third furthest weight throw in the nation this season and the second furthest shot put.
