HINSDALE, Ill. - The Saluki men's tennis team started slow and was unable to recover Saturday night in Hinsdale, Ill., falling by a 5-2 margin to the UIC Flames.
Mpilo Migogo notched one of the two Southern singles wins, topping UIC's Bastian Harbo in straight sets 7-6(6-4), 6-1, in No. 2 singles. The win was Migogo's second on the season and also ended Harbo's five-match winning streak.
Falk De Beenhouwer recorded the other win for the Dawgs, toppling Dave Robare 6-2, 6-1. De Beenhouwer has now won three of his last four matches - the best such streak for Southern.
The Salukis began the match on a sour note, falling in all three doubles matches. However, each match was decided by three points or less.
Very little would improve from there.
In top singles, Brandon Florez captured the first set from Sebastian Lystad - UIC's all-Horizon League captain - and had an opportunity to win the set in the second. However, Lystad pulled out the win and cruised in the final set to take the match.
The other three singles matches resulted in straight set losses for Southern.
The Salukis will be back in action Sunday, when the travel to Rockford to take on the Northern Illinois Huskies. Southern and Northern will begin their match at 1 p.m. in The Clock Tower Resort Racquet Club.
