Quick Hits
The Salukis head into the week with a 4-6 record after winning back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday in Carbondale to take the series from Purdue.
After a five-game home stand, the Southern Illinois baseball team heads back out on the road for five games in the state of California. Four of the five come in the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament, which is co-hosted by San Jose State and Santa Clara. The Salukis play the Spartans twice (March 10 & 13), the Broncos twice (March 11 & 14) and UC Davis once (March 12) during their stay in the Silicon Valley.
These five games end a stretch of 10 games in 13 days for the Salukis. SIU has posted a 2-3 record in the first five games of the stretch that started on Tuesday, March 2. The Salukis lost a pair to Middle Tennessee before taking 2-of-3 from Purdue last weekend.
Freshman outfielder Nick Johnson leads the Saluki offense, as he is batting .485 with 10 RBIs. He has hit safely in eight-consecutive games and all nine that he has played in to start his career.
Junior infielder Blake Pinnon had 7 RBIs, one home run, one double and scored three runs in the last five games.
The Salukis own a 2-3 road record this season.
