CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois head football coach Dale Lennon and his wife, Chris, hosted 91 women in the Troutt-Wittmann Center Friday night for the 2010 Saluki Football Women's Clinic.
The event, in its second year under Lennon and his staff, consisted of five stations run by SIU position coaches that educated the attendees about the game and prepared them for this fall's inaugural season of the Saluki Way facilities.
Student-athletes assisting at the clinic included Bryan Boemer, Joe Okon, John Goode, Mike McElroy, David Pickard, Stephen Franklin, Joe Allaria, Connor James, Chris Dieker and Chance Coda.
Lennon is proud to continue this tradition as an opportunity to welcome women Saluki football fans in the community.
"Football is a fun game. It's a team game," he said. "I think it is the one ultimate team game that exist where it doesn't matter your size or speed. Anybody can participate in the game and I think anyone can be a fan of the game. We just try to provide a form where people can come out and have a chance to mix it up with the coaches and have a little fun with football."
All proceeds from the event will go towards purchasing football tickets for area youth.
Coach Lennon and the SIU football team will wrap up their spring schedule with the annual spring game Saturday, which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at McAndrew Stadium.
