Southern Illinois has won the last seven games in the series against Evansville. The last time the Purple Aces visited Carbondale was in 2008 and the Salukis won all three games of the series by a combined score of 19-6.
Sophomore Chris Serritella has hit safely in his last 19 games. His hitting streak is tied for the 15th longest in the nation this year and is the longest by a Saluki since Mark Kelly hit safely in 21-straight games in 2007. Serritella is hitting .434 over the course of his hitting streak, has nine multiple-hit games and eight multiple RBI games. He has driven in 22 runs in that time.
Junior left-handed pitcher Randy Hoelscher has walked just two of the last 167 batters that he's faced in his last six starts. He has a 3-1 record in that time with a 3.86 ERA. Hoelscher leads the Saluki pitching staff with the fewest walks per inning pitched (.245).
Southern Illinois has not homered in its last four games -- its longest homerless stretch of the season.
The weekend series is SIU's first conference action since April 25. It is Southern's last home series of the season, but the Dawgs do host Saint Louis, May 18, in their last game of the season at Abe Martin Field.
Southern Illinois has won 10 out of its last 12 home games and has a 15-8 overall record at Abe Martin Field this year.
The Salukis need one more win to match last season's win total of 24.
