Stalter signs contract with Miners

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Former Southern Illinois shortstop Michael Stalter signed a contract on Tuesday with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League.
Stalter made his professional debut with the club that night, helping the Miners to a 6-2 win over River City at Rent One Park in Marion, Ill. He had a pair of singles, scored the go-ahead run and stole a base in the victory.
The Hopedale, Ill. wrapped up his two-year career at SIU this spring. He started in all 109 games and batted .295 with eight home runs and 62 RBIs in his Saluki career.
Stalter came to SIU in 2009 after two seasons at Heartland Community College. He majored in marketing at Southern Illinois.
