CARBONDALE, Ill. - Five Southern Illinois football players were named to the 2010 Consensus Draft Services FCS Preseason All-America squad that was recently released.
SIU's five representatives on the CDS Preseason All-America teams are the most from any team in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
Junior offensive tackle David Pickard was Southern's lone first team representative. Pickard was a third team All-America selection by The Sports Network after his sophomore season of 2009 in which he helped lead the Saluki offense that ranked No. 5 in the nation in rushing (221.1 yards per game) and No. 7 in scoring (34.0 points per game).
Fellow offensive lineman, junior center Bryan Boemer, was named to the second team. Boemer was selected to the All-MVFC second team in 2009.
Senior cornerback Korey Lindsey, senior safety Mike McElroy and senior kicker Kyle Dougherty were all named to the honorable mention team.
