CARBONDALE, Ill. - Phil Steele's college football preseason magazine ranked the Southern Illinois football team No. 7 in its FCS Preseason Top 25 poll, released recently on the publications Web site.
In addition to the preseason rankings, Steele also released his preseason All-American teams, which honored four Salukis. Senior cornerback Korey Lindsey, senior safety Mike McElroy and junior fullback John Goode were named to the first team while junior offensive tackle David Pickard was selected to the second team.
Seven Salukis were named to his preseason All-Missouri Valley Football Conference first and second teams. Along with the four Steele named preseason All-Americans, junior defensive end Kyle Russo was also named to the preseason All-MVFC first team. Senior wide receiver Joe Allaria and senior kicker Kyle Dougherty were both selected to the second team.
Steele ranked three other MVFC teams in his Preseason Top 25. South Dakota State was selected No. 18 and Illinois State was No. 13 on the list. Northern Iowa had the highest ranking of the teams, appearing at No. 5.
Phil Steele's College Football Preview magazine, which includes a full page on every FCS team, hit newsstands on Tuesday.
The Salukis open the 2010 season on Thursday, Sept. 2 when they christen Saluki Stadium by hosting Quincy at 7 p.m. Season tickets are currently on sale and reserved seating is still available near midfield on the east side of the horseshoe-shaped facility. Tickets can be purchased by calling 877-SALUKIS or visiting the SIU Ticket Office in Lingle Hall.
Football season ticket prices are $95 for adults and $50 for youth. A $250 Family Pack features season tickets for two adults and three children.
