Volleyball hires assistant coach Evan Hook

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois head volleyball coach Brenda Winkeler announced Evan Hook as a new assistant coach Tuesday.
"I am thrilled to welcome Evan to the Saluki volleyball staff," Winkeler said. "He will bring a tremendous amount of energy to the court. His experience as a former player in college and on the American Volleyball Professional Tour and his many years of experience instructing defense will be exactly what the Salukis needs to compete in the Missouri Valley Conference."
Hook's primary responsibilities at SIU will be to work with the defensive speicialists and liberos, while coordinating travel and helping with recruiting. As a player, at both the college and professional levels, Hook's specialty was at defensive specialist or libero, training with many Olympic players and coaches.
A native of Huntington Beach, Calif., he has 12 years of coaching experience at various levels of women's volleyball, having coached over 50 female players that went on to play collegiately and receive accolades at the Junior Olylmpics and other high performance development programs.
"I am very excited for the opportunity to be a part of the Saluki volleyball program," Hook said. "I'm looking forward to putting on the Saluki maroon and helping Brenda continue to lead the Salukis in their climb to the top of the MVC."
He earned a bachelor of arts degree in communcation studies from Long Beach State in 2003 where he was a libero for the 49ers.
