Salukis impressive in summer collegiate leagues

CARBONDALE, Ill. - A total of nine Salukis participated in NCAA-sanctioned collegiate baseball leagues this summer, ranging from the Alaska Baseball League to the Hamptons Collegiate League in New Jersey.
Below are some facts and notes from their seasons.
Andrew Bever (RHP): Started seven games and made relief appearances in two others for the Gunnison (Colo.) Colts of the Rocky Mountain Baseball League...Compiled a 6-1 record with a 2.91 ERA in 46 1/3 innings of work, in addition to one save...Recorded three complete games in his seven starts on the mound...Finished the season with a 47/7 strikeout to walk ratio and only allowed 19 hits and 13 earned runs...Limited opposing batters to a measly .143 average...Helped team advance to the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan.
Brock Harding (INF): Played for the Springfield Sliders of the Prospect League...Saw action in 45 of team's 55 games...Collected 30 hits - including six doubles and a triple - for a season average of .205...Batted in 13 runs during the season and accounted for another 17...Recorded three RBIs in one game on three separate occasions (June 5 vs. Danville Dans, July 17 @ Dubois County Bombers, Aug. 3 vs. Terre Haute Rex).
Austin Johnson (LHP): Appeared in five games and started one for the Harrisonburg (Va.) Turks of the Valley Baseball League...Only allowed eight hits and two runs over 11 1/3 innings of work...Opposing batters managed a .190 average against Johnson.
Nick Johnson (OF): Played in 23 regular season games and five playoff games for the St. Louis Metro Collegiate Baseball League champion Alton (Ill.) Indians...Tied for the league lead with 22 RBIs in the regular season...In 111 total at bats, belted out 31 hits, including five doubles, a triple, and two home runs...Batted in four runs during the playoffs...Collected 7 RBIs on July 17 in an 18-0 romp over the Clayton Wasps.
Austin Montgomery (OF): Saw action in 31 of team's 33 games for the Joplin Outlaws of the M.I.N.K. League...In 100 plate appearances, garnered 22 hits and eight RBIs...Went 3 for 5 and batted in one run on June 19 at Ozark Generals.
Chris Serritella (INF): Played in 52 of 57 games for the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska Baseball League...Ranked third in the league with three home runs...Rated fourth or higher on the team in 11 statistical categories...Led team with .386 slugging percentage...Finished second on the team with a .288 batting average and third with 21 RBIs.
Jordan Sivertsen (OF): Saw action in 37 games with the Licking County Settlers of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League...Batted .299 during the season and ranked fifth in the league with four home runs...Amassed a .458 slugging percentage during the season...Settlers finished with the best regular season record in the GLSCL.
Aaron Snyder (RHP): Started nine games and entered in relief in another three for the Hamptons Collegiate League champion North Fork Ospreys...Went 6-0 and tied for the league lead in wins, while holding a 3.10 ERA...Amassed a HCL-leading 62 strikeouts...Struck out eight batters and only allowed three hits in a seven-inning complete game win over the Sag Harbor Whalers, 7-3.
Lee Weld (RHP): Appeared in 13 games for the North Fork Ospreys, champions of the Hamptons Collegiate League...Finished second in the league with five saves with no blown saves...Struck out 28 batters in 20 2/3 innings, while only allowing 19 hits...Allowed no runs in five appearances between June 29 and July 28...Struck out three batters in 1 1/3 innings for the save on June 8 at Southampton Breakers.
