CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois football team came together for a little over two hours on Tuesday in Saluki Stadium, marking the 14th practice on the 12th day of fall camp.
Both the offense and defense had its moments in Tuesday's practice that ended with the two units going live against each other on two full drives.
Senior quarterback Chris Dieker led the offense on a 65-yard touchdown drive in the team session by completing all four of his passes, three of which went to Joe Allaria.
After missing a better part of a week with a concussion, senior running back Lucien Walker was working with the first team offense on Tuesday. He had a nice 10-yard run on the first team's lone drive, which was aided by a nice block on the edge from left tackle David Pickard.
Walker capped off the scoring drive with a 4-yard touchdown run.
Sophomore quarterback Paul McIntosh guided the second team offense into the red zone on the second drive before the session was cut short to kick field goals. McIntosh hit John Goode on a third-and-two play at the 50 for a 25-yard gain early in the drive.
Senior running back Richard White was working with the second team Tuesday, and he ran the ball well. On his last carry on the final play before the drive was cut off, he took a handoff up the middle for a seven-yard gain on a third-and-one. That put the ball down at the Saluki five-yard line.
The Saluki defense looked good early in practice, dominating the offense in 7-on-7 work and for the majority of the inside running game drill.
Southern Illinois is holding its last two-a-day session on Wednesday before coming together for its second scrimmage on Thursday, which is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. in Saluki Stadium.
