Jeneva McCall named MVC Field Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois thrower Jeneva McCall was named the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference female field athlete of the week, the conference announced Wednesday.
After earning two indoor all-American honors in the 2010 indoor season, McCall continued her dominance in the throws at last weekend's Saluki Open with wins in both the weight throw and shot put. The Dolton, Ill., native extended her NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the weight throw on Friday with a distance of 73-00.00, defeating teammate Gwen Berry by three and a half feet and leading the five SIU throwers in the top six.
McCall also emerged victorious on Saturday with a mark of 54-00.50 in the shot put, where she was part of three Salukis in the top four in the final standings.
As a team, the Salukis earned seven first place finishes at the Saluki Open.
SIU will continue their 2010-11 indoor season this Friday and Saturday, when they head to Bloomington, Ind., for the Gladstein Invitational.
