REDBIRDS COAST PAST SALUKIS
Illinois State handed SIU its biggest home loss of the season 82-44 Thursday night. Southern jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but the Redbirds promptly went on a 9-0 run as SIU went eight minutes without scoring. Southern kept the margin within 14-7 by the 10 minute mark, but Illinois State scored 34 points over the ensuing 10 minutes to take a commanding 46-15 lead into the locker room. SIU nearly doubled its offensive output with 29 second-half points, but the effort was too little, too late. Renee Reed led SIU with 13 points while Teri Oliver scored 10 playing in her first game back from a three-game suspension.
SALUKIS LOOK TO `PACK THE HOUSE' AGAINST SYCAMORES
Saluki Athletics looks to "Pack the House" Saturday against the Sycamores. Saluki Athletics will give away more than $2,800 in prizes, including a 46-inch Sony Bravia LED TV, an Apple iPad, a Sony Camcorder and a Nintendo Wii in addition to gift certificates. Brown Dawg's Playland will be available for kids in the SIU Arena main entrance, which features an inflatable bounce house and basketball game. Fans will also be treated to a halftime performance by the All-American Frisbee Dogs.
REED ALL ABOUT IT
Saluki guard Renee Reed has been one of the Salukis bright spots offensively during a rough four-game stretch. Reed has averaged 11 points per game over the stretch, including an 18-point outing at Evansville. Reed is having a breakout redshirt freshman season after sitting out last year with a knee injury.
TAKING A WRONG TURN
The Salukis will look to put an end to a troubling trend that has haunted the team in it's past four games. SIU has posted at least 30 turnovers for four consecutive games, including a program record 39 at Evansville.
