NEW ORLEANS, La. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released national team computer rankings for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field preseason.
The Saluki women begin the season ranked ninth in the nation following a ninth place finish at the 2010 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. The women's team is one of three mid-major programs ranked in the top 25, as they are joined by Mountain West schools BYU (12th) and TCU (22nd), and the highest ranked mid-major program in both the men's and women's polls.
Meanwhile, the men's squad will begin the year ranked 48th in the nation.
The Dawgs have already competed in one event, as they hosted the Saluki Fast Start on Dec. 3. Junior thrower Jeneva McCall - on the heels of her two indoor All-American honors from a season ago - notched an automatic qualifying spot in the weight throw.
The Saluki track teams will look to defend their national rankings on Jan. 14 and 15 when they host the Saluki Open inside the SIU Rec Center.
