Would the Valley consider adding North Dakota University to the football conference, or would nine conference games be considered too many?
We are happy with the league's decision to add the University of South Dakota and play an eight-game conference schedule.The scheduling of eight conference games was done with the thought of not chartering to more than two league opponents in a given year as a cost control measure.That leaves us with three non-conference games, one of which will always be an FBS opponent with a financial guarantee. The other two non-conference games would ideally be home-and-home series against drivable opponents such as SEMO, Eastern Illinois and Murray State. North Dakota, which ultimately joined the Big Sky conference, was one of the teams the MVFC considered during its recent expansion.
Please explain the difference between FCS and FBS scholarships. I have heard that FCS scholarships can be split between full and partials, but that FBS are all full rides. About how many of SIU's football scholarships are full rides?
In the sport of football, the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly referred to as Division I) can award 85 full scholarships.The Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) can award 63 full scholarships to a total of 85 individuals or "counters". More than half of the maximum 63 scholarships at SIU are given as "full rides". The number of full rides varies from year to year and is at the coach's discretion.
How many men's basketball games do you expect WSIU to televise this season?
We just received the final ESPN and Fox television package from the MVC last week and will now work with Saluki Sports Properties and WSIU to finalize our third-tier television package. At the present time, I am anticipating an additional five to seven games will be televised by WSIU for this upcoming season. We have a meeting this week to begin the scheduling process.
