Anderson named MVC Cross Country Athlete of the Week

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois senior Neal Anderson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week.
One week after a first-place individual finish and leading SIU to a team title at the Saluki Invitational, Anderson once again anchored the Salukis to a strong team finish last week at the Greater Louisville Classic. The Springfield, Ill., native posted an 8k time of 24:30.16 to take the 20th position among 245 competitors, helping the Saluki men to a fifth-place finish in a 29-team field that contained several nationally ranked squads.
This marks the third MVC Athlete of the Week honor for Saluki cross country as Lacey Gibson was honored last week and Brian Dixon was honored September 19. The SIU men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action October 15 at the Evansville Invitational.
