CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois volleyball coach Brenda Winkeler announced Wednesday two players will join the Salukis in 2012.
Taylor Pippen of Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Ill., and Lindsay Hutchison of Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, Mo. will both don Saluki maroon next fall.
Pippen is a 6-foot middle blocker that recently helped lead Carmel to the IHSA Class 3A Supersectional. The Corsairs posted a combined 41-23 record during Pippen's junior and senior seasons. She was named All-Area both years and was an honorable mention All-State selection in 2010.

During her club career with the Rolling Thunder Volleyball Club, Pippen was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2010 USA Volleyball Junior Nationals. PrepVolleyball named Pippen one of the top 250 athletes in Illinois.
"Taylor is an extremely athletic player who will be a great addition to the SIU volleyball Team," Winkeler said. "Her outstanding jumping ability will make her a player that has the chance to make an immediate impact on the team. Besides her athletic talent, she is also an outstanding student. Her combination of athleticism and work ethic make Taylor a well-rounded teammate."
A 5-foot-5 defensive specialist, Hutchison is a three-year varsity starter that helped Bloomfield to a 78-17-1 record the last three seasons. She tallied a combined 1,226 digs during her varsity career in addition to posting 480 kills and 78 service aces.
Hutchison has been named All-State, All-Conference, All-District and All-Regional each of the last three seasons and was named the Stoddard County Defensive Player of the Year this season. She is also a regular member of the Bloomfield High Honor Roll.
"Lindsay is a player that is enthusiastic, hard working, and talented. We look for her to come in and compete for a defensive position from day one." Winkeler said. "She is extremely quick and will work to get herself a spot on our court in the fall. She will be a positive addition to the Saluki volleyball team."
