CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois women's basketball head coach Missy Tiber announced Wednesday Azia Washington has signed with the Salukis for 2012.
Washington is a 5-foot-11 forward from Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, Mo. She is enrolled at SIU for the spring, 2012 semester and will begin practicing with the Salukis as soon as she arrives on campus.
Washington was ranked 71st overall and 12th among power forwards by the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. ESPN HoopGurlz ranked Washington a three-star recruit as the 58th-best prospect at her position. She was named All-State following the 2009-10 season during which she helped Blue Springs to a 29-3 record and a state runner-up finish.
"Azia is an outstanding rebounder and scorer. Her overall skill allows her to be an exceptional four spot that can eventually play the three-guard in our system," Tiber said. "Since Azia will be joining us in January, it will allow her a transition period into college athletics and she will be even more prepared when she steps on the court next season."
