WACO, Texas - Southern Illinois center Bryan Boemer has been named to the 2011 AFCA Football Championship Subdivision Coaches' All-America team, the American Football Coaches Association announced Wednesday. Boemer was one of 25 members selected and one of only five offensive linemaen on the team.
Boemer was a captain for the Salukis in 2011 and led an offensive line that blocked for MVFC Newcomer of the Year Jewel Hampton. The Salukis averaged 183.1 yards per game rushing, ranking third in the conference, and SIU posted seven 200-yard rushing games in 2011. Boemer was named an All-Conference lineman for the third year in a row. He posted a 93 percent blocking percentage and didn't give up a sack all year.
Boemer is the eighth player in school history to earn first-team All-America honors by the AFCA. The most recent AFCA All-American was Korey Lindsey in 2009. He becomes the second offensive lineman selection in school history, along with Aaron Lockwood in 2008.
With the selection, Southern Illinois has had an All-American nine times in the last 10 years.
