CARBONDALE, Ill. - After winning last weekend's SIU Invitational, the Southern Illinois track & field teams head north to Grand Valley State this weekend, where they are set to compete in the GVSU Big Meet.
The meet begins Friday at 10:50 a.m. ET with the start of the women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon. The action continues Saturday morning at 9 a.m. ET with the conclusion of the heptathlon and open field events.
The Dawgs will be facing stiff competition inside the Laker Turf Building. The 57 team field includes Big Ten squads Michigan, Michigan State, and Purdue, mid-major power Middle Tennessee State, and MVC rival Indiana State, along with nationally-ranked Division II programs in Western State, Central Missouri, and host Grand Valley State.
SIU will be one of five Illinois schools at the meet, as they are joined by Lewis, Loyola, Rockford College, and SIU-Edwardsville.
The team will be looking to add another automatic qualifier this weekend to its list after thrower J.C. Lambert punched his ticket to College Station, Texas, at the SIU Invitational and broke the school record in the weight throw. He was named MVC men's field athlete of the week for his efforts.
The Salukis totaled 12 event titles and 71 top ten finishes at last weekend's meet en route to winning the men's and women's team titles.
