SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
The Sycamores enter the matchup on a two-game losing streak, having lost four of their last five since beating the Salukis in Carbondale. Last week, ISU dropped both its contests on the road at Creighton and Drake. Sophomore guard Taylor Whitley netted 20 points in the 71-62 loss to the Bluejays Thursday while junior guard Brittany Schoen poured in 25 points in a 72-67 loss to the Bulldogs Saturday. Junior center Shannon Thomas leads the Sycamores with an average of 12.9 points and 8.2 rebounds while Whitley averages 11.5 points and Schoen averages 11.2 points. Schoen leads the MVC in 3-pointers made (2.8/game) while Thomas is second in the conference in rebounding and field goal percentage (50.7%).
SERIES WITH INDIANA STATE
SIU leads the all-time series between the two teams 40-34.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
SIU Saw its best shot at its first MVC win slip away in the final minutes of a 48-42 loss to Indiana State Jan. 29 at SIU Arena. The Salukis had their biggest halftime lead of the season at 26-14, but shot just 14.7 percent in the second half. Southern took a 39-38 lead with under five minutes to play, but ISU responded with a 7-0 run. The Salukis had a few open looks during the run, but couldn't get anything to fall. Teri Oliver led Southern with 17 points in the loss while Renee Reed added 11.
SALUKIS CAN'T RECOVER FROM SLOW START, FALL TO BRADLEY
SIU struggled in the opening half and couldn't recover in a 76-60 loss to Bradley Saturday at SIU Arena. The Salukis out-scored the Braves 32-29 in the second half, but a 19-point halftime deficit proved insurmountable. Katrina Swingler posted her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Brooke LeMar and Jordyn Courier both posted season highs with 12 and 11 points respectively. SIU's 60 points were its most since its 62-61 win over Murray State Dec. 18.
